Suncorp Stadium

When legendary Lang Park was reborn as Suncorp Stadium in 2003, Kennedy’s Classic Aged Timbers took centre stage in the contemporary blueprint.

Salvaged from the Howard Smith Naval Complex, over 45,000 lineal metres of Kennedy’s recycled Spotted Gum and Grey Ironbark was applied to the stadium’s extensive exterior.

Integral to the innovative design, this century old timber showcases an exceptional display of quality recycled building products. Functional in purpose, the timber slats link together to create four massive screens suspended from the building’s facades.

Each batten was moulded with 3mm pencil round edges and the timber sawn, yet left uncoated, to achieve a natural, weathered grey appearance. Thirteen years on and Kennedy’s recycled timbers have settled into their new home with ease, style and splendour. The richness of the 100 year old timber embraces a shared history of its own origin, united with the celebrated sporting site.

Providing a welcoming space, the timber screens also assist in reducing sunlight and glare from the immense glass curtain walls enclosing the upper level of the stadium.
