UQ on Tour | supporting the future of our industry

Furthering our commitment to the industry’s future, the team at Kennedy’s recently welcomed 130 students from The University of Queensland onsite for an extensive tour of our award winning production facility.

Accompanied by their lecturers and tutors, the cohort of first year architecture students were given the opportunity to learn more about the vast potential of recycled timber and its carbon benefits.

Witnessing firsthand the processes involved in transforming recycled timber into a wide range of adaptable and eco friendly building products, the educational visit, now in its third year, has become a highlight on the Kennedy’s calendar.

If you have a story or item of interest that you would like featured in AGAINST the Grain or posted on our new AGAINST the Grain Blog please email us at news@kennedystimbers.com.au

Novel use for old timber

Kennedy’s recycled timber literally took centre stage at a recent Queensland Symphony Orchestra recital.

Donated by Kennedy’s Timbers, the large rustic piece of recycled Spotted Gum (pictured on table) played a starring role in the mid year performance.

Giving new life to old timbers is a core value of the team at Kennedy’s.

Remaining steadfast to our commitment “where quality timber does not cost OUR Earth” we believe in the value, beauty and resilience of reclaimed timbers.

Whether presented in its most basic form or profiled to suit a particular purpose, Kennedy’s recycled timbers are an incredibly versatile, natural product.

Kennedy’s contributes to college cross

The team at Kennedy’s are proud to support a number of not for profit projects throughout the country.

Our latest donation combines our passion for recycled timber and educating our nation’s future.

A new cross erected on the grounds of Seton College honours the school’s catholic ethos as well as our commitment to the environment.

Dedicated to St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, Seton Cross was constructed using Kennedy’s recycled Grey Ironbark timber.

Reclaimed from Mackay Wharf, this novel reuse of a timber product is what Kennedy’s is renowned for; innovative, professional and sustainable.

Surrounded by roses planted by the college students, and blessed during a recent dedication ceremony, the new Seton College Cross is a striking display of history reborn.

Park Avenue Style

The newly refurbished Park Avenue Hotel Motel is a celebrated icon of Rockhampton City.

Carried out during the Hotel’s 50th anniversary year, this vast redevelopment is an architectural success.

Incorporating Kennedy’s hand brushed, pre-oiled Ironbark and Spotted Gum feature timber, architect Michael Kisluk of TVS Partnership utilised the recycled timber grading rules to design and specify the substantial renovation.

First released in 2008 the Interim Industry Standard for Recycled Timber offers recycled timber manufacturers, suppliers and users specific grading guidelines.

All Kennedy’s recycled timbers are now graded and supplied according to the new standards.

Our Timber Grading Team have become well versed in grading and hand selecting every piece of timber we supply to our valued clients.

Understanding the wide range of timber species available on the market and their varying uses is fundamental to the enduring success of timber applications.

Massive and magnificent, Kennedy’s chunky posts, beams and seating timbers have enhanced the charm and character of this modernised structure.

Built by WATPAC Specialty Services Pty Ltd, and proudly owned by the Godwinfamilysinceitsoriginal construction in 1961, this historic site and popular live music venue has now been granted a new lease of life for future generations to enjoy.
